“In 2004 Jerry Hadley and I had an idea to start an organization called The American Lyric Theatre Foundation, an entity that would support performances of American music and composers. As we discussed it further, this idea grew to include the soliciting of new musical works, opera, art song, and theatrical productions.

One of our long standing dreams was also to create an organization that would award money to deserving young musicians, specifically to those who are in immediate need of professional training and who are not yet at competition or professional status. This dream is now a reality in the form of Action for Artists.”

William Hicks, AfA Founder and Chairperson

The why:

  • Action for Artists was established to foster musical talent and careers through financial assistance when necessary for singers, instrumentalists, and other creative artists via grants and awards, contributing in a manner that is open to all peoples.
